allow user to enter a new category if an accurate one does not exist.
As of now there are not categories for every species on the planet. So, allow the user to add categories! For instance, I saw a Five-Lined Skink, and I would like to add that as a category. Instead, I have to mark it as simply a lizard, which is too general. Thanks!

Add "cancel buttons" (don't make users leave the page)
Don't expect users to leave a page to cancel an activity.

Allow a clickable map for location entry.
Allow folks to find their location on a map, and simply enter their encounter there. The service to "locate a place-mark" by name does not work well for remote locations.

Provide non US species (e.g. the UK).
You tweeted and so I installed the iPhone app but it only has US species. I am in the UK.

Would be great if you could work with OutfitEZ to provide a "WildObs" clothing profile!

Enable linkage to audio in iPod app
I have 100's of audio tracks in iTunes where one or more could be linked to a species to help verify it's diagnosis.

Synch iPhone/iPod with WildObs Website
Right now WildObs Observer is a field tool for capturing encounters (what/where/when and a photo) but it could be more if it synchronized fully with WildObs website:
1) Download encounters entered on the website.
2) Downlaod changes (e.g. photos added) from the website.
3) Allow user photos (especially from site) to be used as personal species identification photos.2 votes -
UK wildlife lists and Blackberry app as well as iPhone.
Terrific idea but I'd love to see a UK specific set of lists, and to be able to enter data via my Blackberry Bold. Also it might be an idea for users to be able to add their own species to the list, otherwise Choleopterists will never be well served :)

(Admin, wildobs) responded
Soon there will be regional lists, perhaps by the county level not just country. A user can already have favourites, recent, local (their immediate neighbourhood) wish is a step in this direction.
Users can add species today as they wish.

Allow "vague dates" (i.e. I saw this moose back in 1999)
I want to record all my encounters, not just new ones. I don't remember the exact time of day. Can I set the date/time to be to the hour, day, week, month, year, decade or even unset?

Enable users to record GPS locations of observations and group them according to location e.g., park
If someone wants to maintain lists of species seen at a park or private property but also wants to have the observations be spatially explicit (e.g., each observation has unique coordinates) it would be nice to be able to group multiple locations and generate lists according to the group name (e.g., park, ranch, etc.).

Show both video and still photos for one encounter
Currently it seems if you have a video, the photo is not shown.

Download data to a CSV file
It would be nice if users were able to download their observation lists to a CSV file so that they can maintain a backup and perform their own analysis on the data.

Enable users to edit and delete observations
There are times when an animal is misidentified in the field and an observation needs to be updated to reflect the correct information.
Also, having the ability to delete observations would be nice

Do not enter locations that were not entered by the person posting the encounter.
Next to one of my photos is listed a location that I did not enter.

There needs to be an option to specify photo credits, copyright information, URL of original photo. When I entered new species that were not contained in the iphone dbase there was no photograph associated with the species observed. So, I went out on the web to find a good example of the species and uploaded the URL through the WildObs web interface. In no way am I trying to pass the photos off as my own and would like to give credit to the respective photographers and list their URL if possible.
